Terms of Service for Arc: AI Reader & Summary

Welcome to Arc
Thank you for choosing Arc: AI Reader & Summary (“Arc”, “we”, “our”, or “the App”). These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Arc, our floating sidebar application that provides AI-powered summaries, text-to-speech, content saving, custom AI actions, and chat features for Android devices.
By downloading, installing, or using Arc, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the App.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By using Arc, you confirm that:
- You are at least 13 years of age (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction)
- You have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms
- You will comply with all applicable laws and regulations
- You understand that the App requires certain permissions to function as intended
2. Description of Service
Arc is an Android accessibility application that provides the following core features:
⚡ Floating Sidebar: A persistent overlay interface accessible from any app (requires Display Over Other Apps permission)
🤖 AI Summary: Generates concise summaries of on-screen text using Google Gemini API
🎧 AI Read: Converts on-screen text to speech using your device’s built-in Text-to-Speech engine with automatic language detection
💾 Save Content: Captures and stores summaries and optional screenshots securely in local device storage (requires explicit consent for screenshots, Android 11+ only)
🔍 Organization: Search, categorize, and manage your saved summaries
☁️ Google Drive Backup: Optional backup and restore to Google Drive (requires separate consent)
✨ Custom Actions: Create personalized AI actions with custom prompts tailored to your workflow
🌐 Community Actions: Browse, add, publish, and upvote AI actions shared by the Arc community
💬 Chat with AI: Have contextual conversations about screen content, summaries, or custom action results
📱 App Management: Control which apps Arc can work with, with nearly 400 sensitive apps blocked by default
Minimum Requirements: Android 5.0 (Lollipop) or higher. Screenshot feature requires Android 11+.
3. User Accounts
Guest Mode: Use core features without an account.
Google Sign-In (Optional): For Drive backup, Community Actions publishing, and future features. We collect only your Google ID and email (no name or profile picture). You’re responsible for account security and can delete your account anytime by contacting us.
4. Permissions and Data Access
Arc requires specific Android permissions to function. We are transparent about what we request and why:

Important: We never monitor your screen in the background. Text extraction and screenshot capture occur only when you explicitly tap an action button in the sidebar. You maintain complete control.
5. Content & Intellectual Property
Your Content: You own all content you create or save. By using AI features, you grant us temporary rights to process your on-screen text solely for generating summaries and responses. Backup content is subject to Google’s terms.
Our IP: Arc’s software, design, and features are owned by Rethink and protected by copyright. You may not copy, modify, or reverse engineer the app without permission.
6. AI Services & Disclaimers
We use Google Gemini API for summaries, chat, and custom actions, and your device’s Text-to-Speech for audio.
Important AI Disclaimers:
- AI-generated content (summaries, chat responses, custom action results) may not be 100% accurate
- AI outputs are for informational purposes only - not professional, legal, medical, or financial advice
- Always verify important information from original sources before relying on it
- Web search grounding (when enabled) provides real-time information but may also contain inaccuracies
- AI may occasionally produce unexpected or incorrect results
7. Custom Actions
Arc allows you to create personalized AI actions with custom prompts.
Your Custom Actions:
- You retain full ownership of custom actions you create
- Custom actions are stored locally on your device
- You can enable screenshot capture and web search grounding per action
- You control which actions appear in your sidebar
Usage Guidelines:
- Custom prompts must not be used to generate illegal, harmful, or offensive content
- You are responsible for the prompts you create and their outputs
- Arc is not responsible for results generated by your custom prompts
8. Community Actions
Arc features a community where users can share AI actions.
Publishing Actions:
- Publishing is voluntary and requires Google Sign-In
- When you publish, your action’s name, icon, prompt, and your email address become publicly visible
- Published actions are stored on our servers
- You can unpublish your actions at any time
- Actions added from the community cannot be re-published (prevents duplicates)
Community Guidelines:
- Do not publish actions with illegal, harmful, offensive, or misleading content
- Do not publish actions that infringe on others’ intellectual property
- Do not manipulate the upvote system
- We reserve the right to remove any published action without notice
System Actions:
- Arc provides curated “System Actions” created by our team
- System actions are marked with a verified badge
- System actions cannot be unpublished or modified by users
9. Chat Feature
Arc allows you to have AI-powered conversations about content.
Chat Terms:
- Chat history is stored locally on your device only
- You can attach screenshots to chat messages (requires consent)
- Chat responses are subject to the same AI disclaimers as summaries
- Conversations are limited to 50 messages per session
- You can delete chat history at any time
10. Prohibited Uses
You agree not to:
- Use Arc to violate any laws, regulations, or third-party rights
- Access or attempt to access copyrighted, proprietary, or confidential content without authorization
- Use the App to generate, save, or share illegal, harmful, or offensive content
- Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or extract the source code of the App
- Interfere with or disrupt the App’s functionality or servers
- Use automated systems (bots, scripts) to access the App
- Impersonate others or misrepresent your affiliation
- Bypass, disable, or circumvent any security features or access controls
- Publish community actions that violate our guidelines
- Manipulate upvote counts or community rankings
11. Service Availability
We strive for reliable service but cannot guarantee 100% uptime. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features at any time. Material changes to these Terms will be communicated through the app. Continued use means you accept the updated Terms.
12. Google Drive Backup
Optional feature requiring explicit permission. Backups are stored securely in your Drive’s app-specific folder. Only you can access them. Delete anytime via Arc settings or Google Account settings. Subject to Google’s Terms.
13. Privacy & Security
All data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS. Local data is protected by Android’s app sandbox security. See our Privacy Policy for complete security details. You can access, export, and delete your data anytime. We implement industry-standard security but cannot guarantee 100% security. Breach notifications will be provided as required by law.
14. Disclaimers & Liability
“AS IS” Service: Arc is provided without warranties of any kind. We don’t guarantee error-free operation or continuous availability.
Liability Limits: To the maximum extent permitted by law, we’re not liable for indirect damages, data loss, or lost profits. Our total liability is limited to $100 or the amount you paid us in the past 12 months.
15. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Rethink, its developers, affiliates, and partners from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including legal fees) arising from:
- Your use or misuse of the App
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your violation of any third-party rights
- Content you input, generate, or share using the App
- Custom actions or community content you create or publish
16. Accessibility
Arc was built accessibility-first, supporting users with dyslexia, low vision, and reading challenges. We continuously improve accessibility features and welcome feedback at everythingrethink@gmail.com.
17. Children’s Privacy
Arc is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that we have inadvertently collected such information, we will delete it immediately.
Parents or guardians who believe their child has provided us with personal information should contact us at everythingrethink@gmail.com.
18. International Use
Arc is available worldwide but subject to U.S. laws. You must comply with export laws. Some features may vary by region.
19. Termination
By You: Uninstall the app or request account deletion anytime.
By Us: We may terminate access for Terms violations, illegal activity, or abuse of community features.
After Termination: Your right to use the app ends. Account data may be deleted per our Privacy Policy. Local device content remains until you delete it. Published community actions may be removed.
20. Disputes
Contact us at everythingrethink@gmail.com to resolve issues informally first. Unresolved disputes go to binding arbitration (no jury trials or class actions). Small claims court is still available.
21. General Terms
If any provision is unenforceable, the rest remains valid. These Terms and our Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement.
22. Updates
We may update these Terms for legal changes or new features. Material changes will be announced in-app. Continued use means acceptance.
